We worked by subtraction: few woods, a single warm tone, no contrast for its own sake. The floor is a quiet ground for the rooms, and lets the light and the materials set the key instead.

The measurement comes before the cut. Before laying we studied how the light crosses the room at different hours, so that the boards could be turned to make the grain come alive at the right time of day.
